Did you see the Sunday flyer this weekend from Toys R Us. They featured our favorite little fury friend the Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters. Toys R Us says that they have them. Can anyone confirm this? They even show a cute little pink one that looks like Jilly. I don’t think Jilly is available yet.
The really cool thing is the price. They are saying you can get them for $9.99. That would be amazing if the supply for Zhu Zhu Pets has finally caught up with demand and now this close to Christmas you could just buy them for retail prices at the store. Well if you cannot find them at Toys R Us or anywhere else you can still find them here. As soon as the new products come out in January we will include them in this site.

Remember holiday’s past when a ticklish red monster was all the rage? This year it is a a fake hamster. The are officially known as Zhu Zhu Pets, and these elecro mechanical rodents have some advantages over a real hamster. First of all they do not stink, chew up cardboard, or keep you awake at night when they run around their cages making noise. In fact, I don’t think they make a Zhu Zhu pet cage. Kids really get excited when the Zhu Zhu pet hamsters start coo and scoot about unpredictably. Their parents are happy since the do not to have to clean up after the hamsters. If you are lucky enough to find Zhu Zhu Pet hamsters in the store they start at $7.99 each, so it sort of makets the hamsters are recession-friendly toy. However they are in short supply, the Zhu Zhu Pets are so popular that most stores cannot keep them in stock. The cute little pets are almost always sold out at the likes of Toys “R” Us, Wal-Mart and Target, though we are told that more will be on the shelves the day after Thanksgiving, when black friday shoppers wake up early to shop for Zhu Zhu Pets.
Of course the Zhu Zhu Pets are available on Amazon and eBay. The five different battery-operated hamsters — Chunk, PipSqueak, Mr. Squiggles, Num Nums and Patches are highly coveted toys.
As part of our Zhu Zhu Pet tracker stories we are being told that Toys “R” Us will tens of thousands of Zhu Zhu Pets in stock on the Friday after Thanksgiving. But you will have to get up really early, Toys “R” Us stores will open on Thanksgiving at midnight, and the first 100 customers in line will receive a ticket for a Zhu Zhu Pet, with a limit of one for each household.
We are even hearing that Zhu Zhu Pets are being air shipped in to deal with the shortages. The Cepia company has increased production and is taking phone calls from parents desperately seeking Zhu Zhu Pets, as well as their slightly pricier accessories, like a ramp with slide and a garage with car. There is even a hamster surfboard.
By they way did you know that Zhu Zhu hamsters get their name from Chinese which means “little pig”, which the folks at Cepia thought was appropriate, given that hamsters are known for making messes. Shop for Zhu Zhu Pets!

Can you believe it is less than two months before Christmas 2009? Most people can hardly believe that a battery-powered hamster has become the Tickle Me Elmo and Cabbage Patch Kid of 2009 shopping season.
After you try them, see them or play with them it won’t take you long to understand why craze. The Zhu Zhu Pets are fuzzy, battery-operated hamsters that run on wheels and are are suppose to sell for less than $10 in stores such as Walmart, Toys R Us and Target. However, the stores sell so quickly, and they can’t keep them in stock. Buy Zhu Zhu Pets now!
Some stores are reporting that they get up to 50 calls a day looking for Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters. Most stores are have trouble keeping the hamsters on their shelves. As a result of this dilemma most parents are turning to the aftermarket like Amazon and eBay in search of Zhu Zhu pets. They seem to be the only place that has them in stock. You can find great deals on complete sets or starter sets of Zhu Zhu pets. Here’s and example, you could buy a three-hamster set with the playhouse, surfboard, exercise wheel, beds and covers for a little over $200 on eBay.
Even Walmart the king of inventory replacement is having trouble, they received five shipments of the pet Hamsters since late September. Wal-Mart sold them out the same day. Toy R Us has attempted to ration or allocate customers to four pets per customer however they can’t keep them in stock, either.
What is even more amazing it that the Zhu Zhu pet hamsters are marketed for children ages 5-8, but teenagers have been buying them, too. It seems that the pets are really attracting a huge following as they appeal to even older kids, who are collecting them.
In order to get around easier than using little tiny legs, the Zhu Zhu Pets run around on wheels on their bellies and are powered by three AAA batteries which can be recharged with a solar charge which makes their carbon footprint almost neutral. Zhu Zhu Pet hamsters make a variety of cute cooing animal sounds and are the next best thing to buying real hamsters.
The Zhu Zhu pets come with a dozen different accessories. If a real hamster has it a Zhu Zhu Pet has it and more. Zhu Zhu pets have carrying cases, a house with a kitchen and bath and Sony LCD flat screen, connecting tubes and an exercise ball and hamster wheel. This just in! Rumor has it that there will be several new Zhu Zhu pets released in November. Correction on the station wagon and the Zhu Zhu Pet boat. We now believe that these will be part of the January 2010 release. As part of the release they will release a new red Zhu Zhu Pet car as well as a Zhu Zhu Pet woodie station wagon perfect for carrying a hamster surfboard. The November release should also include a red, yellow, and white Zhu Zhu hamster boat. I have even heard that they will also release some furniture. Shop for Zhu Zhu Pets
Of course as part of this release they should also release additional or new Zhu Zhu pets including Scoodles, Jilly, Winkie, and Patches. Base on my research none of they Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters have been released yet and should be released soon. How can it be that a battery-powered hamster is alread causing such problems this holiday season. No one expected the demand for the Zhu Zhu pets hamster to be as much as it was. A lot of retailers held out on their orders of the fury little pet hamsters and now are facing shortages and availability problems. As a result this has put the conservative stores on red alert and they are now scrambling to stock up on their inventory of the very popular Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters. Unfortunately, most of the worlds toys are manufactured in Asia, specifically China, and “can take up to six week boat trip to arrive.” As a result beefing up inventories of Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters in time for the holiday season may be virtually impossible. Unfortunately, Zhu Zhu Pets can be especially hard to find at Wal-Mart and Target. That’s because earlier this year Target and Wal-mart, the two big discounters decided not to make a big inventory bet that Zhu Zhu Pets would be a hit this Christmas. It was early one Thursday morning and almost a half-dozen people crowded into one aisle at the local Toys R Us in the first few moments after opening seeking for one thing: small, furry hamsters. That’s right they were looking for Zhu Zhu Pet Hamsters. From Squiggles to Num Nums to Pipsqueak or Chunk. It could also have been Scoodles or Nugget or any of the other of Cepia LLC’s Zhu Zhu Pets Hamsters that appear to be this year’s “gotta have it” toy for the holidays. Shop for Zhu Zhu Pets
The Zhu Zhu pet hamster are being heaviliy promoted by TV commercials. The Zhu Zhu commercials show the hamsters running across the floor, slidding in tunnels, or cuddling up to their pet owners making purring and cooing sounds. The theme song touts their benefits: “You will love your Zhu Zhu Pets, because they’re so real without the mess.”
Price was there when the store’s doors opened at 10 a.m. with her sister-in-law, Chris VanRegenmorter, to buy the hamsters as Christmas presents. The store had an overnight delivery, and they wanted to get some of the $9.99 hamsters before they were gone.
At this point most stores are limiting the number of hamsters you can buy at one time. I have recently checked Meijer shelves as well as Target and their shelves were bare. The popularity of the critters and their many accessories skyrocketed during the past few months, stunning some retailers.
The hamsters and their accoutrements — which include tunnels, balls, sleeping bags, cars, skateboards and surfboards — move out of stores as soon as they move in. But the furry rodents still can be found on the Web — for a price.
